Choosing a Large Bedside Cot

Bedside cots (also called co sleeper bedside Cot-sleepers or bassinets) are designed to let parents rest with their baby at night without the risk of SIDS. However they are only suitable for use up to 6 months when your baby will be required to be moved into a cot or a moses basket.

MFM home tester Mehack loved the fact that this model has a bassinet that can be lifted off to use around the house and the ability to rock manually. It was simple to put together and came with its own travel bag.

Size

Cots and cots differ in terms of size, with cots being smaller than beds for cots. They can also be converted into toddler beds, whereas cot beds are generally only used until three years old. older. There are two sizes of wooden cots, large and standard that can be transformed into a toddler bed or a cot. Selecting the larger one is a good option when you want your child to sleep in it until they are at least three years old.

Height

When choosing a bedside cot choose one that can be elevated to a height that's comfortable for you when feeding babies. It should also be able of being dropped down so that you can lift your baby closer to you for feedings at night or soothing. This feature is especially useful if you are recovering from a C-section. For instance the Next2me and Tutti Bambini cots can be adjusted to a height of 58cm while the Snuzpod 3 goes up to 63cm and the Knuma huddle up to 70cm.

Another thing to consider is the height you would like to set for the cot's base to be. While some mums find it easier to get their babies out of the standard Moses baskets at the lowest height, others prefer having a higher base that gives them more stability. One of our mom testers stated that the Joie Roomie Glide was a popular choice. It has a collapsible side you can press at the push of a button.

Remember that a bassinet/bedside sleeper is only suitable until your baby can hold their head up unaided, usually at about 6 months. This is due to the possibility of being suffocated. It's also important to know that if you choose a bassinet/bedside sleeper that can be converted into a crib, you will need to start removing the sides when your child is able to do this, so that they don't climb out or fall out of the bed.

Design

There are a variety of styles of cribs for bedside crib with wheels use that range from basic to lavish. Another option is the Chicco Next2me Magic, which has won Gold at the 2021 Mother&Baby Award in the category of Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket and is equipped with a machine-washable liner, reflux incline, and rocking function. It's bigger than other bedside cribs that we've tested, but it folds into its travel bag to make it relatively compact when it's not in use.

Leya, MFM mum home tester, also acknowledged the crib's usefulness. She claimed that it was designed to be used by parents and infants. Safety

The most important security aspect of a large bedside cot is that it can be easily moved up or down to allow parents to reach their baby when they need to feed them, comfort them, or change their nappies. This makes it ideal for new mothers who may still recovering from a C-section. Find a model that allows you to lower one side with the push of a button so you can easily lift your baby without getting out of the bed. This is essential, especially as your baby grows and becomes more mobile. You'll also want to be careful not to add anything to the crib that could increase the risk of suffocation or injury, like duvets and pillows, which could cause babies to become overheated.

The NPR of the CPSC's NPR included 24 incidents that were attributed to product issues that included gaps between the bedside sleeper and the adult bed (12 incidents); fabric-sided enclosed openings (11 incidents); consumer misassembly or missing parts (6 incidents) and other miscellaneous product-related issues (9 incidents).

In its NPR the CPSC looked into the possibility of introducing additional requirements to bedside sleepers. For instance they would need to meet the minimum side height requirements for bassinets or at least the maximum height requirements for the rails that are lowered. However, the CPSC concluded that such requirements are not feasible or effective to reduce the number of incidents in which infants were entrapped between the bedside cot wooden sleeper and the adult bed.

The majority of the reported incidents in the NPR included multi-use bedside sleeper cot sleepers that can be converted to other types of use, such as bassinets and play yards. A number of commenters suggested that the CPSC include in the proposed rule a different provision for multi-use bedside cots uk sleepers that would allow them to meet the minimum side-height requirements for bassinets using an attachment that can be permanently connected or removed when the product is not being used as the bassinet.

The CPSC is examining these and other comments received in response to its NPR regarding bedside sleepers. The Commission will consider these comments when it votes on the final rule which is expected to be published in November 2021.
