Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting

Volvo drivers love the remote control capabilities of their key fob. With a smartphone app they can lock and unlock the car as well as start the engine and even locate it.

Place the key fob's face up on a clean surface. Find the button that will release it. Place a coin between the fob cover and the fob, and slowly pull it up.

Locking the Door

Volvo's remote keyfobs allow you to unlock your vehicle's doors, tailgate and fuel filler flap at the press of one button. The remote key fobs also turn on the ignition and trigger the alarm. They can also operate the sunroof, if it is equipped. You'll never again have to look for your keys, or get locked out of your vehicle.

If you own a brand new Volvo model that we have in our dealership, you might be unsure of some of its key fob hidden features. One of them is a manual lock/unlock button that you can use in the event that the battery in your key fob dies.

To press the manual lock/unlock button Hold your key fob with the Volvo logo facing upwards. Locate the black button that is on the outside of the key fob body, and gently press it to open a cover which conceals the manual key blade. This cover can be flipped counterclockwise with a flathead or coin.

The Engine is Ready to Start

For example, if you have the available Hands-Free Power Liftgate with logo projection and programmable height (if equipped) you can open it by using the key fob. You can open the liftgate by pressing the button, and then close it with the same button.

Use the key fob whenever you are ready to start the vehicle. (Don't worry if your battery dies or if your vehicle doesn't start, because it also has a mechanical key slot). This is just one of many useful trick for your brand new Volvo.

Turning off the Alarm
